Joint Injections

A joint injection involves the delivery of steroids into a joint. Such joints include the knees, hips, or shoulders. These injections are typically performed for patients suffering with arthritis, a condition resulting from wear and tear of the joint. The steroid decreases inflammation inside the joint, leading to decreased swelling and pain. These injections are sometimes performed under x-ray guidance. The procedure typically takes less than 5 minutes to perform. The beneficial effects can last for weeks to months.
