Ganglion Impar Blocks

The ganglion impar is a collection of nerves in front of the tailbone that can be involved in lower pelvic or anorectal pain. A ganglion impar block is used to treat pain stemming from the lower pelvis, including the anorectal and perineal regions. The injection is done using x-ray guidance in which a needle is advanced near the nerves and then a local anesthetic is injected.
